About Empowa

Designed in direct response to systemic failures in emerging-market housing finance.

Empowa exists because the existing financial system, not poverty, is what keeps ~85% of families in emerging markets out of homeownership. We built a platform that routes institutional capital past the dysfunction and into the hands of vetted local developers — in fiat, hedged against currency volatility, repaid by families who could never previously qualify for credit.

01

The mission

Enable millions of emerging-market families to own a climate-smart home. Africa is where we started — Mozambique in particular — and it’s where most of our current proof lives. But the model applies across every OECD-defined emerging market where the mortgage rail is broken.

02

How we got here

Empowa was founded to address the backlog of 50 million affordable homes needed across Africa. Our first pilot shipped in Beira, Mozambique with delivery partner Casa Real — starter homes from $10,000, lease-to-own financing under 10% interest, in a country with only ~600 mortgages total for a population of 30 million.

03

Where we go next

Scale Mozambique. Expand Nigeria (with TAHCo). Open Kenya. Prove the model works across a second and third OECD-defined emerging market. Build the blockchain-backed over-collateralisation layer to a point where institutional capital can deploy at 10× today’s size.

Capital that earns, and means something.

If you’re deploying institutional capital in emerging markets, or building housing on the ground — we’d like to talk.
