Overview

Empowa is a member of NSE's Ibuka Program — an incubator that supports growth-stage African companies preparing for capital-markets readiness. The membership underpins Empowa's work on a Cardano-based Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenisation platform for affordable-housing finance, funded by a Project Catalyst proposal and developed alongside Kenyan stakeholders.

Project Milestones

  • Milestone 1 — Project Scoping. Status: Completed (Due end of September). Stakeholder engagement, market analysis, and regulatory review for blockchain implementation in Kenya's housing and capital markets.
  • Milestone 2 — Project Scoping Continued. Status: Completed (Due end of October). Finalising stakeholder engagement and assessing technical feasibility for the RWA blockchain solution.
  • Milestone 3 — RTO Pricing Model Calculator. Status: Completed (Due end of January 2025). Develops a Rent-to-Own pricing model and calculator for real-estate tokenisation.
  • Milestone 4 — Pilot Launch. Due end of March 2025. Delivers a Minimum Viable Product for tokenising RTO assets on the Cardano blockchain.
  • Milestone 5 — Sharing Outputs and Opportunities. Due end of June 2025. Documenting progress and fostering collaboration around Cardano technology.

Recent Updates

  • February 2025: Empowa leadership visited Kenya to advance collaboration with Kenyan affordable-housing stakeholders, including meetings with Mi Vida, KMRC, Shelter Afrique, and NACHU.
  • October 2024: Team engaged with local developers (BrownCap, Zima Homes) and institutional partners (Reall, FSD Kenya).
